History off the Beaten Path

This week we drove through part of the Lithuanian countryside in a town called Vilkija on our way to Kaunas. On the side of the road, there are various signs for historical sites. We found two, one in the forest and one along the road. The first site was a Holocaust Mass Grave from 1941. The second site was a cemetery dedicated to those who lost their lives fighting for the resistance from 1944-1953. We will be looking for more sites off the beaten path as our time in Lithuania goes on.
